The FUFA Club Licensing Committee (FCLC)
has confirmed that they are ready to a return to night football following the development of lighting capacity at two stadia.

In this move to floodlights kick-offs once again, St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende the home of 2022/2023 Star Times Premier League Champions Vipers Sports Club as well as the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium, the home of KCCA Football Club have be considered to host games at night starting this weekend with each hosting one game.

To kick start this new football experience  once again in Uganda National League football, the FCLC has admitted that they have cleared two games to played under floodlights; and the lessons and success of these two games will give a green light for more fixtures to be pushed to the night time zone kick-offs.

The two games that have been clear to take the lead in this initiative are; Vipers Sports Club vs Black Power Football Club as well as KCCA Football Club vs UPDF Football Club.

Vipers SC at 07:00pm will host Black Power FC on Saturday. 08th. April. 2023 at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende while KCCA FC at 06:00 pm will be at home at the MTN Phillip Omondi Stadium, Lugogo against UPDF FC on Sunday. 09th. April. 2023.

Top football clubs in the Star Times Uganda Premier League feel they are ready to tap into the late evenings and nights outing  as a way to grow and take their brands to a bigger entertainment time zone and the clearance by the FCLC is one step in the positive direction since most Ugandans have a working schedule that runs from morning to the late evening and as such fail to make it to stadia to catch up with their teams.

After these two games, the FUFA Club Licensing Committee will come up with a report that shall form the basis of more games being cleared to take place at these stadiums.

Additionally, the FCLC which is the body mandated to ensure compliance to the regulations governing the game of football in Uganda will soon be publishing regulations upon which matches under flood lights thereafter be played on any stadium in the territory of Uganda.

This is going to be the second taste of night football in the national league with the first coming in 2019 and football fans are eager to witness this milestone reborn.

On Wednesday. 08th. March. 2019, Sports Club Villa hosted Kirinya Jinja SSS Football Club at the Nelson Mandela International Stadium, Namboole.

Vipers SC the host of the first game have tasted this atmosphere this year having hosted some of their CAF Champions League games on floodlights.

On Saturday. 25th. February. 2023, Vipers SC hosted Simba Sports Club in the CAF Champions League fixture which the eventually lost 1-0 (Baka Inonga Henock).
