Airtel Uganda Rewards more Subscribers in “Tulumbe AFCON” Campaign

Airtel Uganda subscribers have kicked off the new year in style and excitement after the Telecom Company rewarded them with various prizes as part of the “Tulumbe AFCON” campaign.

This is the fourth group of customers to win with Airtel Uganda in the campaign that started in December last year. “Tulumbe AFCON” was launched to build support and enthusiasm for the national football team, the Uganda Cranes as they head to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Speaking at the handover, Mrs. Remmie Kisakye Kakuru congratulated the winners and thanked Airtel customers for the support they have shown to the promotion and the Uganda Cranes.

“Over the past weeks, we have had winners from all over the country, which gives us hope that the whole of Uganda believes in both the Uganda Cranes and Airtel Uganda. “Tulumbe AFCON” is our way of creating support for our national team, while also rewarding our customers who support both Airtel Uganda and the Uganda Cranes,” she said.

“Many of us will not be able to travel to Gabon and cheer on our team but with the prizes we are giving out, which include, television sets and smart phones, we hope to give our subscribers a chance to follow the games from wherever they will be located within the country,” she added.

Concluding her statements, Mrs. Kakuru spoke about Uganda’s historic wins at the 2016 CAF awards. “Today’s prize giving ceremony is made more special by the wins at yesterday’s CAF awards. Our goalkeeper, Denis Onyango was crowned African Player of the year- based in Africa while the Uganda Cranes were crowned team of the year. As the official sponsor of the Uganda Cranes, Airtel Uganda couldn’t be prouder of these achievements. From the qualification to the 2017 AFCON tournament last year, to last evening’s wins, our team and coach have shown all of us what happens when you combine excellent sportsmanship with the right partnership,” she concluded.

Also speaking at the event, Deepak Bhatia Airtel Uganda’s Chief Commercial Officer called upon the rest of the country to actively participate in the campaign that will be ending next week. “Next week, we will give out the final pair of tickets to one lucky subscriber to Gabon. This all-expenses paid trip is our way of thanking Uganda for continuously choosing us as their network of choice and for giving the team the morale and support to secure these wins.”

Hassan Bogere, a resident of Luzira and one of 5 subscribers won 43-INCH TV sets was barely able to control his excitement. “When I received the call, I couldn’t believe it until I received the second confirmation call. I want to thank Airtel Uganda for this great start to 2017. And I wish the Uganda Cranes all the best in Gabon.”

10 other winners took home smartphones while Norah Mwesigwa, a 13-year old student from Ntinda won herself an iPhone 6Plus.

For one to take part in the campaign, Airtel Uganda subscribers are required to dial *162#, where they have the choice to opt into the campaign by selecting option 1. Customers will then be made aware of their target and will be required to recharge and use Airtel Uganda services up to this target. Upon reaching the targets, subscribers will receive 100% bonus, which, on accumulation, will be rewarded to them as airtime to be used for voice (prepaid), data and SMS.

Participants are entered into a weekly draw where they could win 5 TVs, smartphones, and an iPhone 6 Plus. The last pair of tickets to Gabon will be awarded next week. Winners will be contacted by Airtel on 0752-600-222.
