The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has accused member states of the East African Community (EAC) for isolating Tanzania in drafting of the EAC federalist constitution.

Addressing a news conference at the party headquarters in UPC party spokesperson Luchima Okello said Tanzania seems to be isolated in this process because Tanzania doesn’t move in a very deliberate and measured pace before they can engage themselves in the issues of the political federation.

“It Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya who are going to draft a federal constitution for the East African Community. This shows a lot of concern because Uganda and Rwanda are terrible democratic deficits. Any serious and legitimate process for the East African Community Federation cannot ignore the misgivings of Tanzania” he said.

Okello added that any East African Community federation constitution drafted by dictators will not be acceptable to all democratic forces in East Africa urging them to draft a constitution that will be meaningful to the original East African.
