PYIP Denounces Attack on NUP Offices

The Platform for Youth Inclusion in Politics representatives on Friday this week condemned the unfair political environment especially the Wednesday Police and Military siege on the National Unity Platform Offices based in Kamwokya, a Kampala suburb that led to loss of approximately Shs25 million, leaving many injured,  damage of property, confiscation of nomination signatures , unnecessary arrests of close to 100 NUP members including tailors and merchants of all NUP wear as security officials claimed it’s a breach of Security wear and patents.

The raid came just a day prior to National Unity Platform primaries that were scheduled to occur on Thursday 15th October across the Country.

The Platform for Youth Inclusion in Politics (PYIP) condemned the mysterious act of invasion by security officials and requested government to set pace for dialogue and discussion with the different political parties in Uganda instead of suffocating the opposition yet the constitution and the laws of Uganda clearly recognizes their existence.

The Platform for Youth Inclusion during a press brief held on Friday October 16th at their Offices in Kasanga, a Kampala suburb pledged to collaborate with different legal service providers and see NUP detainees attain justice and freedom including partnership with Human rights activists.

The attack on NUP Offices comes at a time Uganda’s Political field is getting to the climax with elections and nominations for the different political party candidates ongoing across the Country. PYIP mentioned of unveiling a tracker that will closely monitor electoral progress and status in the Country especially when Presidential elections are just few months ahead.

The Organization (PYIP) prompted by the provoke on NUP office stepped in with several interventions consisting; Call to Action, Humble request to Security officials for civilized ways of peaceful elections, Advised the Electoral Commission to well manage election activities without bias, Call upon young Ugandans to denounce election violence, called on the international community to publicly speak out to Ugandan government to respect regional and international legal instruments governing human rights and freedoms.

Emmanuel Wabwire, an official at The Platform for Youth Inclusion in Politics during the presser criticized the NUP Office attack claiming it’s a breach of freedom of expression and limitation for citizen participation in politics as he promised to work with all partners such as; Action Aid Uganda, Open Space Centre, Advance Africa Foundation, Youth Coalition for Electoral Democracy, among others to petition Government for a fair Political Environment especially during these political times.
