“Don’t write about Parliament,”Among warns Daily Monitor

The speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among has sternly warned the Daily Monitor Newspaper following a recent screaming headline that indicated that Parliament through its commission had secretly increased the salary of legislators by at least 40%.

Speaking during plenary yesterday, a visibly angry Among strongly cautioned Daily Monitor to desist from writing about ‘what you do not know.’

“I saw a headline from Daily Monitor claiming we have increased salary. I want to warn Daily Monitor. Don’t write about Parliament,” she asserted. “If you do not have what to write, just don’t write what you do not know. There’s a difference between salary and pension. What we had increased is pension, not salary as reported,” she added.

The ploy of having the Parliament welfare elevated was reportely quashed by President Museveni who disagreed with the idea citing economic challenges as the country has even borrowed from private banking entities a whooping 4 Trillion to facilitate the budget.

Some sources inside parliament revealed to this Newspaper that days after Among’s plan to increase salaries was foiled, she and the Parliamentary Commission opted to procure a fleet of Toyota Landcruiser V8 series vehicles that were to be shared to all members of the Commission Secretariat, Govt whip, the speaker’s chambers and the Leader of Opposition.
