Lira Businessman Shots His Son Dead in Money Brawl

The territorial police in Lira-City Central Police Station are investigating circumstances under which a businessman in Lira city identified as Joe Ogwang Hajji aged 57 yrs old and a resident of Ireda Estate in Lira-City East Division shot dead his biological son Haron Okello aged 35 years.

It is alleged that the suspect Ogwang while at his work place in Kamuswahili cell, Okello , confronted his father demanding money. In the process of the confrontation, Okello now deceased tried to disarm his father of a pistol in his possession and in self defence, Ogwang, the father to the deceased discharged a bullet that later injured him

However, Okello was later pronounced dead upon reaching Lira Medical Center.

North Kyoga Police Region Spokesperson SP. Jimmy Patrick Okema confirmed the incident noting that the deceased was an army deserter and a drug abuser.

According to the police statement, the scene of the crime was visited by both DPCs of Lira City CPS and Lira City West Division together with the Division CID Officers and a SOCO.

Case file registered under CRB 1002/2023.

Ogwang’s Pistol No UG IND 99702870 with 5 rounds of ammunition has been withheld by police to determine whether he acquired the pistol legally through the license he holds.
